'Navigation Course' for the Artist in Search for a Curator
In 4 hours course, we will talk and discuss the different cases of artists, portfolio reviews and profiles of curators to find a minimum of prepared 'luggage' which any artist should have to start the search for his/her curator.

Irina Chmyreva, PhD.

Photography historian, curator and art critic.
Ph.D. in Art History.
In 2006–2017, she was senior researcher of the department of the Russian art of the 20th and 21th centuries in the State Research Institute of Art Theory and History of Russian Academy of Fine Arts.In 2017, she became the leading researcher at that same institution.
Since 2014, Irina is a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA).
Author of articles on the history of Russian photography in the three-volume encyclopedia “The History of European Photography” (2010, 2014, 2016) presented by the Central European House of Photography, Bratislava, Slovakia. Her texts were published in periodicals in France, Germany, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, the United States, etc.
In 2003–2007, she was a lead researcher of the department of photography and multimedia projects at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.
She is a permanent reviewer at the Meeting Place FotoFest, Houston, the United States, starting in 2002. She has been a jury member at international photography contests, such as the Hasselblad Award 2015, the Syngenta Photography Award 2013, Critical Mass (several times), and more.
Since 1999, she is a reviewer at portfolio reviews in Berlin, Brasilia, Bratislava, Budapest, Bucharest, Buenos Aires, Yekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, ód, Paris, Pingyao, Pozna, Porto Alegre, St. Petersburg, among other places.
Curator of multiple exhibitions of contemporary and classic Russian photography and contemporary art in museums, photography and art centers, within festival programs globally.
In 2011, she was a member of the curatorial group, jointly with Evgeny Berezner, Natalia Tarasova, Wendy Watriss, and Frederick Baldwin, of the First International Portfolio Review in Moscow for Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian photographers. In 2012 within the same team she curated the Contemporary Russian Photography main program of FotoFest 2012 Biennial in Houston, US.
Right now she is teaching, writing, reviewing, curating world widely and organizing PhotoVisa International Festival of Photography in Krasnodar, Russia.

Em 2006-2017, foi pesquisadora sênior do departamento de arte russa dos séculos 20 e 21 no Instituto de Pesquisa Estatal de Teoria e História da Arte da Academia Russa de Belas Artes. Em 2017, ela se tornou a pesquisadora líder do mesmo instituição.
Desde 2014, Irina é membro da International Association of Art Critics (AICA).
Autora de artigos sobre a história da fotografia russa na enciclopédia de três volumes “The History of European Photography” (2010, 2014, 2016) apresentada pela Casa Europeia da Fotografia Central, Bratislava, Eslováquia. Seus textos foram publicados em periódicos na França, Alemanha, Polônia, Rússia, Eslováquia, Estados Unidos, etc.
Em 2003-2007, ela foi pesquisadora líder do departamento de fotografia e projetos multimídia do Museu de Arte Moderna de Moscou.
Ela é revisora permanente no Meeting Place FotoFest, Houston, Estados Unidos, desde 2002. Ela foi membro do júri em concursos internacionais de fotografia, como o Hasselblad Award 2015, o Syngenta Photography Award 2013, Critical Mass (várias vezes ), e mais.
Desde 1999, ela é revisora de análises de portfólio em Berlim, Brasília, Bratislava, Budapeste, Bucareste, Buenos Aires, Yekaterinburg, Kaliningrado, ód, Paris, Pingyao, Pozna, Porto Alegre, São Petersburgo, entre outros lugares.
Curadora de várias exposições de fotografia contemporânea e clássica russa e arte contemporânea em museus, centros de fotografia e arte, em programas de festivais em todo o mundo.
Em 2011, foi membro do grupo curatorial, juntamente com Evgeny Berezner, Natalia Tarasova, Wendy Watriss e Frederick Baldwin, da Primeira Revisão Internacional de Portfólio em Moscou para fotógrafos russos, ucranianos e bielorrussos. Em 2012, na mesma equipe, foi curadora do programa principal de Fotografia Russa Contemporânea da Bienal FotoFest 2012 em Houston, EUA.
No momento, ela está ensinando, escrevendo, revisando, fazendo curadoria mundialmente e organizando o Festival Internacional de Fotografia PhotoVisa em Krasnodar, Rússia.
